Who they are

A Nepalese architect and craftsman, an outstanding representative of cross-cultural exchange in the Yuan dynasty. Skilled from youth in architecture, sculpture, and casting, in his youth he led a team of craftsmen into Tibet, and was later recommended to the Yuan capital Dadu (Beijing), where Kublai Khan greatly valued him and he rose to high office. His most famous work is the magnificent Tibetan-style stupa (dagoba) of Miaoying Temple (the White Pagoda Temple) in Beijing — bringing the Buddhist architectural style of Nepal and Tibet to the Central Plains, still a landmark of Beijing today. He also directed the casting of many Buddha images and ritual objects. As a Nepalese who raised an enduring famous pagoda in China, Aniga is the best witness to how, on the ancient Silk Road, art and architecture flowed across peoples and borders.
