Daughter of Lord Qiao and younger sister of Da Qiao, wed to Zhou Yu, the two seen as a rare pairing of talent and beauty in a chaotic age. The histories say almost nothing of her; nearly all her fame comes from the literary embellishment of Du Mu’s poem "Red Cliffs" — "locked deep in spring in the Bronze Bird Terrace" cast her as an object of Cao Cao’s designs and a symbol of the battle’s outcome, though in real history she lived quietly in Zhou Yu’s shadow.

In his poem "Red Cliffs" Du Mu wrote, "had the east wind not favored Zhou Yu, the two Qiao would be locked deep in spring in the Bronze Bird Terrace," imagining that had Cao Cao won at Red Cliffs, the two Qiao would have been carried off to his Bronze Bird Terrace. This is pure poetic invention — the histories hold no firm record of Cao Cao coveting the Qiao sisters — but the line spread so widely that the fame and literary weight of the "Two Qiao" far outstrip the historical record they left.
