The Abyss Made Flesh, Prison of the Gods
A primordial abyss of Gaia’s generation — at once a god and a place, a bottomless prison deeper than the underworld itself. A bronze anvil would fall nine days from heaven to earth, and nine more from earth to Tartarus. The defeated Titans, and the damned like Sisyphus and Tantalus, are all held here.
After the war of the Titans, Zeus locked the defeated Titans in Tartarus, its bronze gates guarded by the Hundred-Handers. Later the most terrible monster of all, Typhon, was crushed down here too. Whatever the gods dared not kill but had to make vanish forever was cast into this abyss.
