Cronus’s wife, the mother who watched five of her children swallowed by her husband. On the sixth she finally struck back: with a single stone she saved Zeus and buried the Titan dynasty. All six of the elder Olympian gods call her mother.
Rhea secretly bore Zeus in a cave on Crete and handed her husband a swaddled stone to swallow. Outside the cave, the Kouretes warriors clashed their shields to drown out the infant’s cries. The stone he later disgorged was set up at Delphi and called the "navel of the world."
