The Chain-Link Scheme
Seeing Dong Zhuo grown too powerful to check, and knowing Lü Bu to be brave but rash, lustful and credulous, Wang Yun laid a chain-link scheme: he secretly promised his ward Diaochan to Lü Bu as wife, then presented her to Dong Zhuo as concubine, deliberately setting father and son (Dong Zhuo and Lü Bu were adoptive kin) both to doting on the same woman. Moving between them, Diaochan used tears and hints to stir Lü Bu’s jealousy and rage against Dong Zhuo, and at last drove him to kill Dong Zhuo with his own hand — a single woman toppling a court-dominating tyrant by wit alone.
